If the thought of a steaming cup of coffee brings a smile to your face, consider a new twist- adding some ghee!

Ghee, or clarified butter, is a tasty and healthy addition to coffee. Check out some of the benefits:

  1. Rich in nutrients: Grass fed ghee is rich in the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, and also omega-3 & 6 fatty acids. Ghee is derived from butter that has had the casein (proteins), and lactose (sugars) naturally removed. Because it is solely fat, ghee is a better choice than butter for those who have any sensitivities to dairy.
  2. Good for your gut: Butter coffee is extremely popular, however, the casein and lactose in butter can be difficult for some to digest. Without these proteins and sugars, ghee minimizes any digestion issues. Also, some people with impaired digestion may avoid coffee due to an acidic effect on their stomachs. Adding ghee to coffee helps reduce its acidity and possible gastro-intestinal inflammation since the calcium content in it neutralizes this effect. Additionally, ghee contains the good fats butyric acid and Omega-3s, which are beneficial to your gut microbiome.
  3. Makes an easy way to break your fast: Ghee coffee is great to pair with intermittent fasting. It won’t overwhelm your digestive system with a heavy meal first thing and will also provide healthy fats to help fuel your metabolism. Consuming this higher fat beverage will also help slow down the absorption of your coffee, diminish cravings and stabilize blood sugar by preventing huge insulin spikes. Thus, ghee coffee can help with long term weight management as well!

Are you curious about adding ghee to your next morning cup of coffee?

Start with a freshly brewed cup of Cardiology Coffee. Add one to two teaspoons of ghee to taste. Add one to two teaspoons of MCT oil to balance out the ghee, depending on the taste preferred. Blend if desired.

Enjoy!
